CROP FARMING
CASE HISTORY
|
Roads Made Passable after Heavy Rains; Machinery Repair Substantially Reduced during Harvest at a Sugar Cane Farming Operation Due to poor roads that become impassable after heavy rains, crop farmers in Indonesia are only able to harvest on demand 50% of the time. Some crops, such as palm dates, have a very brief window of time for harvesting and it is therefore imperative to have the best road possible at all times. In the past, these farmers have spent a large amount of money on aggregate attempting to solve their road problems. The aggregate, however, pulverizes into dust, settles on plants and fruit or blows away and is ultimately lost and the problem remains. In addition to losing crop sales due to bad roads, vehicles are constantly breaking down: engines, suspensions, tires, fluids and filters. Because of such a large cost, plantations subcontract this work to trucking companies, but ultimately still pay the high costs. |

By enhancing their roadways with Soil-Sement®, these farmers have seen cost-efficient results in passable roads even after heavy rains, major reduction in aggregate use, better operating environment for trucks and equipment, and less general maintenance on roadways.
