AIR FORCE BASE
CASE HISTORY
|
Dust and Debris Problems Eliminated at Military Air Force Base Soil-Sement® provided a cost effective, safe and efficient means of stabilizing the infield at an air force base to prevent dust and debris from becoming airborne during jet blast and decrease the maintenance and safety issues associated with military aircraft operations. The air force base is located in the arid desert region where silty soil is prone to produce large dust clouds. As a result, small particulates get into moving engine components causing friction that results in mechanical stress and maintenance problems. Poor visibility during take off and landing was a safety issue for pilots. After creating detailed specifications to increase CBR values, modulus and stiffness of the infield using Soil-Sement®, extensive field quality testing and technical ability was demonstrated. The installation of Soil-Sement® was implemented by using Good Construction Practices to provide a strong cohesive surface in critical locations including take off and landing areas that are prone to jet blast. |

Soil-Sement® provided the dust free infield resulting in reduced PM10 emissions, decreased maintenance problems and clear visibility.
